Man, MicroscopeThis past Wednesday, HubSpot held its largest webinar yet and possibly the largest B2B webinar ever, attracting over 12,000 registrants and engaging over 4,600 live attendees.

The webinar, "The Science of Social Media Marketing," was presented by HubSpot inbound marketing manager, social media/viral marketing scientist and recently published author, Dan Zarrella. Teaching attendees what drives people to share information and opinions online, the webinar revealed scientifically proven best practices for spreading content virally through social media. Specifically, the webinar covered:

  • The history of word of mouth marketing, from pre-web to online
  • Lessons from social psychology, memetics and statistics to understand what motivates people to share information
  • Scientifically proven best practices for getting people to talk about your business online

The webinar was presented in honor of Dan's recently released book, The Social Media Marketing Book, which guides readers through the maze of communities, platforms and social media tools so they can decide which ones to use, and how to use them most effectively for their business or organization's marketing goals. With an objective approach and clear, straightforward language, the book shows how to plan and implement campaigns intelligently, and then measure results and track return on investment.
