One of the reasons why HubSpot JAPAC is unique is its makeup; Australia, Japan, and Singapore. Geographically close, these countries couldn’t be further in their cultural dynamics. In this blog, you’ll get to meet and hear directly from the remarkable team in Japan.

In the third edition of our series (Pssst, click here to meet #HubSpotSingapore and #HubSpotAustralia), we introduce you to HubSpotters based in Japan to share what makes #HubSpotJapan stand out. Without further ado...

Introducing Stefani, Erika, and Lucy.

Introduce yourself, your journey to HubSpot Japan, and your work option (@flex, @office, @home)

Stefanie Kinjo: I joined HubSpot about 3 years ago as Support and moved to the Academy team last year because I wanted to better educate people about HubSpot's culture and features. I’m a flex employee in the Tokyo Office.

Erika Mizuochi: I’m Erika and I work on the Japan Marketing Team. I’m responsible for the strategy planning and article publishing of our local blog. I joined HubSpot in 2020 as an Editor in Chief for the blog. I chose the @flex work style (between the office and home).

Yu Lucy Ogawa: I'm Lucy, working as a Customer Support Specialist. I was working for a company providing coding boot camps before that and one of HubSpot’s customers!  I love HubSpot’s products, culture, and people! I am pleased that I am part of HubSpot now, working from @home.

How are you driving change at HubSpot?

Stefanie Kinjo: At HubSpot, culture is clearly defined and people work based on HEART (Culture of being humble, empathetic, adaptable, remarkable, and transparent). Our team is global and we work with people of different genders, languages, and cultures daily, but these differences are never a detriment and never make it difficult to work. Everyone respects each other.

Erika Mizuochi: I want to build a team that provides more value for our customers. To bring that to fruition, we are increasing communication time between the Marketing and Sales teams for additional integration.

Yu Lucy Ogawa: With an online but customer-facing role, our team always seeks ways to help solve problems together. Solve For The Customer (SFTC) as HubSpot says! We all try to use inclusive expressions and genuinely care for the customer’s growth and success.

What makes HubSpot Japan unique to you?

Stefanie Kinjo: In Japan, there are very few companies that allow employees to choose to work remotely, so this is unique. I personally like to talk with everyone at work over drinks after work, and I think it is also unique in that everyone, whether new employees or seniors, can join in the conversation and become friends!

Erika Mizuochi: Team Japan is not large yet, especially the Marketing team. It means that I can build the team up and excitedly be a part of a team where all functions communicate closely and rely on each other for maximum results.

Yu Lucy Ogawa: HubSpot Japan is unique in a way - like a big community but with start-up and family vibes.  Our mindset is for SFTC, so we all work hard at it individually but still feel like we are all a big family.

How would you describe the culture? What are the standout initiatives?

Stefanie Kinjo: There is a strong spirit of challenge in what you want to do. And if it is based on the desire to make something better, or solve for the customer rather than for personal gain, many people will support you and push you to make it happen.

Erika Mizuochi: HubSpot’s culture is all about being the best you can be, with our HEART culture. All HubSpotters that I have experienced not only understand the culture but embody it so it’s a very positive place to work.

Yu Lucy Ogawa: I feel a lot of care in DE&I here at HubSpot. DE&I sessions are held every month, and this is what keeps our service better. We all try to be inclusive to our customers and each other. Of course, we are not perfect, but we have space to admit it and show vulnerability.
